We are so proud that the YachadMUN Conference in Memory of Gadi Isaacs has been named after our son. Gadi was a smart student who was not always so committed to his studies, yet he discovered a passion for and shone in the MUN program and would work hard preparing for the various conferences.
One thing that he often said to us was that he wished that there would have been more controversial topics that they could discuss. He wanted topics that he could get his teeth into, no matter which side of the debate he was on. We believe that this year some pleasantly controversial topics will be covered. Gadi would have been delighted!
Gadi graduated from Yachad in the summer of 2021. He had expressed a desire to study either graphic design or international relations at university, perhaps because of his involvement with MUN.
Gadi was born on 19th January 2003, י"ז בשבט התשס"ג, in Jerusalem and grew up in Modi’in. Apart from his interest in MUN, he was also very artistic and would spend hours creating highly detailed pen and ink drawings. He loved reading, particularly in English, and was always seen with a book in his hand, sometimes when he should have been doing something else! He was a passionate supporter of Ironi Modi’in Football Club, of Hull City in England, as well as the Israel national football team. He enjoyed travelling and learning about far-flung places and had great plans for after his military service.
On 10th August 2021 Gadi was drafted into the IDF and the Armoured Corps. He became a tank driver in an elite classified tank unit.
Gadi fell on the 21st May 2022, כ' באייר תשפ"ב, aged nineteen. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Modi'in cemetery.
From Sassie Yona, YachadMUN Advisor
Gadi joined the Yachad MUN club when he was in 9th grade, and it was very clear from his first conference, that he was going to be an outstanding MUNer. Gadi enjoyed the research, he was smart as a whip, and I think more than anything he loved to argue! In looking back at my messages with Gadi's mother, Lisa, on December 14, 2017 after his first conference, I wrote, "Your son was a superstar today!" He had won Best Delegate in his committee, and I sent her a photo of Gadi smiling with his award. Lisa wrote back, "Wow, he never smiles for photos." Gadi was already hooked on MUN, and he attended every conference that he could after that, always bringing home awards and honor for himself and our school. It was unfortunate that Gadi's illustrious MUN career was interrupted by the COVID pandemic because Gadi would certainly have participated in more conferences, perhaps even taking part in our delegation to Oxford MUN, which we had to cancel that year.
We are honored that Gadi was a part of us, and he will remain a part of the YachadMUN conference for years to come, as it bears his name. He is an inspiration to future delegates.
